Talking Bamboo Nightwear

Panda with Bamboo

You may have noticed that I now sell a small range of nightwear made from bamboo and wondered whether it is as comfortable to wear as pure cotton.  If you've never bought clothing made from bamboo before let me tell you a little about it here.

The woody bamboo cane is not immediately apparent as a source of some of the softest fabric around yet that is exactly what it produces.  Processing the bamboo is a lengthy business and involves steeping, crushing, sorting and treating but the end result is a fibre that can be spun to create an ultra soft fabric which is very suitable for making into nightwear and lingerie as it is very smooth to wear against the skin, is temperature regulating, naturally anti-bacterial and drapes beautifully.

I wear the long bamboo lace pyjamas, shown above on the right, myself and they are simply delicious to put on.  They are more luxurious in feel than cotton jersey and have more stretch to them than traditional cotton, they hang elegantly and they feel cosier than my Indian cotton pyjamas.  If you invest in both the short bamboo pyjamas and the long pyjamas you can mix 'n match them creating four styles of pyjama.

Bamboo Nightdress

If you prefer a nightdress to pyjamas then this pretty little chemise with adjustable spaghetti straps is a flattering, youthful style. With it's beautifully elegant drape and silky soft feel it's sure to become a firm favourite in your nightwear collection

So, in summary, here are 7 reasons why you might like to give bamboo fabric nightwear a try:

1.  Bamboo is a fast growing, self renewing plant which absorbs a large amount of CO2.

2.  Its an ideal fabric to try if you have sensitive or itchy skin as the fabric is so very soft and smooth.

3.  The fabric makes up into garments that are elegant and comfortable to wear.

4.  Bamboo is a temperature regulating fabric so is perfect for women who are menopausal, travelling to warmer climates or spending time in a hospital environment.

5.  Clothing made from it can feel very comfortable thanks to that little bit of stretch.

6.  Being a naturally anti-bacterial fabric makes bamboo very hygenic to be made up into under garments and nightwear.

7.  Its easy to care for - machine wash at a low temperature using a gentle washing agent and hang to dry.  No ironing required!

And just as a final note the bamboo used to create the fabric for the nightwear that I sell is FSC certified as being from a sustainable source which means that no forests are being cut down to provide land to grow bamboo, the natural wildlife is protected and the workers involved in growing and harvesting the crop are trained to work safely and paid a fair wage.
